Sanding Floors= Bed

We've had a standing rule that we are not going to bring furniture up to the farmhouse until the floors are done. We are at just under 6 months of ownership, and that means six months of sleeping on air mattress... so this weekend we got to busy on the floors. Sanding floors is not an easy task. We purchased two belt sanders so that we can eventually do this together (with a munchkin it means that one of us has to be with her). On Saturday morning I made it around the edges of the room to remove the random old stain and paint.

Here is what the room looked like before...
Sanding round 1 completed. Now we have to go over it with a finer grade of paper and do the entire middle...

We also pulled down the drop ceilings in the bathroom. This is what it looked like before...

 Pulling out the ceilings...
I even helped pull out some of these...
We also did some touch up work on the vanity...
 Drop ceilings are gone!

Now I'm on a rid the house of drop ceilings kick. Here's to hoping that the rest of the ceilings will be in this good of shape when we take down the crazy drop ceilings. In the bathroom alone this gave us an additional 3-6 inches (depending on the side of the room)

We've got power!

Our major news on the farmhouse front is that we now have upgraded electrical. What this means (drum roll)  we have lights in each bedroom, hall lights, upgraded panels and wiring. How this translates to me directly is that with this upgrade we now have consistent hot water and wait for it.. a fridge! The electrical was done just time before we hosted our first annual Camp Carlyle. We had 21 friends over the course of the weekend come and stay. Most pitched tents and we enjoyed showing the house to our friends and enjoying the last of Summer on the river! In addition to the largest party on the river we also managed to get a few projects done before folks joined us.

We painted L's chair to match the other chairs for the dining room.
We also painted the vanity in the bathroom! Such an improvement from the nasty brown.

Here is a picture of the nasty brown before we painted it...
